Sofia Villani Scicolone was born on the 20th of Septmber, 1934, in Rome, Italy. In 1957 she married her first and only husband, Italian film producer, Carlo Ponti. She remained married to him until his death in 2007, at the age of 94. They have two sons: Carlo Ponti Jr. and Edoardo Ponti. In 1962, at the age of 28, Sophia Loren was the first actress to win an Oscar for a non-English speaking role. Sophia was appointed Goodwill Ambassador of UNHCR in 1992 and also has devoted herself to the National Alliance for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Maltreatment.
